‘This hurts, plain and simple’: Downtown San Antonio coffee shop seeks public’s help after vandalism

A passerby allegedly threw a rock at the property, business says

SAN ANTONIO – The owner of Olla Express Café is seeking the public’s help after she claims a person threw a rock at the property and shattered one of the windows at the downtown San Antonio business.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday at the café, located at 821 East Quincy Street.

In an Instagram post, the shop stated that staff members heard a “crash” and then found glass everywhere, making it “unsafe to even enter the room.”

KSAT spoke to Olla Express Café owner Andrea Ley one day after the incident.

“For a small business, it’s something that’s not easy, you know, to go through,” Ley said. “But we’re gonna make it with the support of our community.”

She said the shop was fortunate no one was in the room when the window shattered.

“The (glass) was all over the place, and you can imagine people sitting there and relaxing, enjoying coffee,” Ley said.

Video obtained by the business appeared to show a passerby throwing a large rock at the shop’s window.

“We don’t like to bring up issues like this, but we are just people trying our hardest to make our dreams come true,” the Instagram post stated, in part. “At the end of the day, this hurts, plain and simple.”

Ley said she has one thing she’d like to ask the suspected vandal.

“Why?” Ley said. “What are you thinking to damage someone else’s property?”

The coffee shop advises anyone with any information to contact them.

According to Ley, the coffee shop is in a home built in 1935. She is unsure how much it will cost to make repairs.
