BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – An inmate at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center was removed from life support on Thursday, more than two weeks after he was assaulted and critically injured by another inmate, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
BCSO said Robert Parker, 48, was assaulted by Tommy Lucero, 45, inside a cell on June 2.

A facility nurse who was conducting follow-up medical checks with inmates saw Lucero attacking Parker, BCSO said. The nurse notified the unit officer, triggering an emergency response.

A deputy responding to the assault ordered Lucero to the floor. He complied and was placed into custody without incident.
Parker was unresponsive and was taken to the hospital, where he was placed on life support.
He was removed from life support at the decision of his family, BCSO said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety – Texas Rangers is investigating the assault as a homicide.
On March 27, Parker was jailed on charges of assaulting a public servant and retaliating, court records show.
Lucero was booked on April 2 on a charge of burglary of a building. He will face additional charges related to Parker’s death.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a separate but concurrent administrative investigation.
Per KSAT’s count, Parker is the fifth Bexar County jail inmate to die since Jan. 1, 2025.
